The Los Gatos Patch picked up the news about our Glenn Hoffman Award. We owe our success at Los Gatos High School to the incredible working relationships we’ve been able to foster at the school and in the Los Gatos community.  To many more years of partnership and helping kids navigate the sometime choppy waters of adolescents! – http://losgatos.patch.com/articles/los-gatos-high-counseling-program-recognized

CASSY is proud to announce that we have been awarded the prestigious Glenn W. Hoffman Award for our work at Los Gatos High School during the 2009-10 school year. This award is presented to programs in Santa Clara County that have a significant impact on students and are innovative, creative, replicable, and sustainable. – http://www.sccoe.org/sccsba/docs/2011_winners_announced.pdf

CASSY has recently launched a new program with Costaño Elementary School and the 49er Academy in the Ravenswood City School District in East Palo Alto. Our services are funded by a California Department of Education School Improvement Grant designed to turn around the state’s most underperforming schools. We are impressed that the schools’ leadership recognized the importance of social and emotional well-being to the educational process and had the foresight to write CASSY services into their successful grant application.

CASSY is honored to be part of an important Los Gatos community event, Jill’s Ride for Hope, a bike ride event in memory of Jill Naber. The event was created by Rob and Polly Naber who lost their daughter Jill to suicide during her freshman year at Los Gatos High School. All proceeds from this August 28th event will help fund CASSY’s work at LGHS.  http://jillsrideforhope-org.eventbrite.com

CASSY just wrapped up a districtwide counseling program for homeless and severely financially disadvantaged students and their families in the Sunnyvale School District. Beyond the individual, family and couples counseling, which we provided primarily in Spanish, CASSY also offered community outreach services. We distributed backpacks filled with school supplies and community-donated clothes, books and toys to the families in need. Our counselors connected these families to local resources that could help them find adequate food, clothing, and shelter for the longer-term.

Starting this month, the Sunnyvale School District has contracted with CASSY to place a bicultural, bilingual licensed therapist at Lakewood Elementary and Bishop Elementary. The majority of the students at both schools are Latino, African American or Pacific Islander, and almost three-quarters of the students receive free or reduced meal plans.

Anyone interested in de-stigmatizing mental health and making the support of our children’s emotional and social health the norm in our schools is cordially invited to a cocktail reception for CASSY, a new nonprofit agency that provides crisis intervention, ongoing counseling, and proactive mental health education in local schools.  http://www.almanacnews.com/news/show_story.php?id=5160

We are thrilled to announce that CASSY has officially received 501(c)(3) status from the IRS. CASSY is now a nonprofit organization registered with the U.S. Department of the Treasury. Contributions to support our mission are now 100% tax deductible.

After experiencing three student deaths in the previous school year, Los Gatos High School conducted a search for much needed comprehensive mental health support. CASSY responded to the school’s RFP and was recently selected to present to the school staff. We were notified today that Los Gatos High School has selected CASSY to provide comprehensive mental health counseling services for the 2009-10 school year. We couldn’t be more excited!
