With a goal to empower family members to navigate their own mental health issues, I joined CASSY to better understand the mental health space and support the local community to address mental health challenges. I am also the Treasurer of the Crayon Initiative, a non-profit organization which donates crayons (over 25 tons annually) to children’s hospitals nationwide.

I work professionally in the financial services industry as a Controller, currently for the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, and previously at Fisher Investments, where I was responsible for global financial and tax reporting compliance. Barbara Qin, CASSY Board of Directors

Treasurer

BARBARA QIN

About 6 months ago, a former colleague reached out to me about the Treasurer role at CASSY. Being a parent of two young children in the Bay Area, I was impressed by CASSY’s mission and efforts supporting students’ social and emotional well-being. After hearing the challenges faced by CASSY during the pandemic, I was interested to contribute my expertise in the accounting and finance field and join the other Board members to develop and enact CASSY’s mission and strategy.

Barbara works professionally as a CPA with a family office. She enjoys hiking and hopes to take the epic Grand Canyon rim-to-rim hike one day.

KIMBERLY PARK

I am honored to be part of the CASSY organization. Working as both a classroom teacher and instructional coach in the Ravenswood City School District for over 15 years, I saw first-hand the powerful impact that site-based mental health services had upon not only students within my own classroom, but also the impact access to counseling has had upon the school culture and climate as a whole. I have seen how the work of dedicated therapists can truly transform a school community. There is such an importance in making mental health services readily available and providing students with the social and emotional support they need.

Kimberly received a B.A. in Political Science at UC San Diego and her Master’s in Education and teaching credential from UC Davis. She is a mother of four, all of whom have names that begin with J!

For the past 18 years I have lived in Los Gatos, we moved here when our sons were 5 and 3 years old. We chose to move to Los Gatos for the strong schools and this move began me on my journey to becoming a seasoned volunteer, community organizer and philanthropist focused on youth and programs promoting health and wellness for young people. Over the years I worked on Home & School Club Boards, Chaired a Local Funding Measure campaign, Co-founded a Boys Team Charity (btc) League in Los Gatos, served on the board of Los Gatos United Soccer Club for 12 years and was President of Community Against Substance Abuse(CASA Los Gatos) for 5 years. With school aged children, and my involvement in school leadership groups I was very aware of CASSY and the services they offered to Fisher Middle School and Los Gatos High School. However, my role as the President of CASA is what led me to CASSY. We were an organization focused on encouraging healthy choices among young people. We worked with High School Peer to Peer organizations and High School leadership to help address important topics at the the High School such as vaping, drinking, anxiety, bullying, etc. Additionally CASA offered parent forums and parent educational seminars and community meetings – we worked to bring together all the local entities that could help support teens. CASA and CASSY were often mistaken for each other by parents and students, in part because the names are so similar, but also because we were both looking to provide Social Emotional Learning to young people. When the CASA board made the decision to cease operations, CASSY was the obvious choice for continuing to make a positive impact on the health and mental well being of teens.

I am so excited to be able to support CASSY as a board member. I was immediately drawn to CASSY’s mission of providing school-based mental health and wellness support after experiencing the challenges of finding counseling services for kids in need. Witnessing friends and youth in my community struggle to find wellness support when grappling with mental health challenges ignited my interest in working for an organization that provides access to mental health services in schools. My goal is to help provide all kids in need with easy access to wellness counseling services.

I am a mother of three inspiring young adults, an experienced employment attorney, and a CASA court-appointed special advocate in San Mateo County where I support an amazing 14-year-old girl.

I have a B.A. from Brown University and a J.D. From Cornell University. Through my work as an employment lawyer, I have learned how to be an attentive listener. I am a strong negotiator and know how to concisely identify the issues and problems that must be solved. Being a mom and an advocate for at-risk youth has taught me patience, acceptance, non-judgementalism, and the importance of seeing the more significant longer-term picture of life. I am also adept at understanding, interpreting, and following the law.
