CASSY LEADERSHIP TEAM

CASSY Staff – Executive Director Marico Sayoc

Executive Director

Marico Sayoc

My role at CASSY
I am the Executive Director and Chief Cheerleader of our organization.

My CASSY story
I have watched CASSY grow from its start in 2009 to the robust organization it has become now. I have witnessed the transformative support CASSY clinicians can provide to students when they are in familiar school settings. In 2019, I was asked to join CASSY, and I knew this was a unique opportunity to positively impact tens of thousands of Bay Area children, their families, and all of our communities – all while working with the kindest staff who truly want to make a difference.

Fun fact about me
My comfort food is watermelon.

CASSY Staff – Program Manager James Dunhour

Director of Impact and Learning

James Dunhour

My role at CASSY
I am the Director of Impact, Assessment, and Learning whose focus is towards measuring the success of the organization and making sure our staff are equipped with the tools needed to make a difference in students’ lives.

My CASSY story
I joined CASSY and was provided with the opportunity to mentor therapists to be the best versions of themselves as they themselves grow and support hundreds of students at each of their school sites. Combined with all of our staff, my sphere of influence can now support thousands of students across all of our sites and allows me to work towards our mission of destigmatizing mental health from pre-school through high school. Training to become a therapist is what I credit towards helping me to blossom into the person I had always wanted to become and has allowed me to experience the process of change and growth firsthand. Knowing I can impact others to believe in themselves and to differentiate as they slowly gain a wider perspective and better understanding of themselves keeps me anchored towards working with the youth. Working at CASSY brings me that sense of joy and constantly reminds me of that passion.

Fun fact about me
People often see me in my role as a therapist or manager, and I often get defaulted into being “the tech guy,” but I also have a wide range of hobbies, such as designing and producing stained glass windows, designing board games, and programming video games. I am raising two children that continue to give my life a sense of meaning that people always talked about, but I never understood until having them myself.

CASSY Staff – Human Relations Manager Valerie Hamberry

HR Manager

Valerie Hamberry

My role at CASSY
As the Human Relations Manager, I manage all people-related activities, such as staffing, compensation negotiation, employee records, payroll processing, performance management, and employee relations.

My CASSY story
The CASSY culture is different than any other company I’ve worked for in the past. It is a pleasure to be a part of such a dynamic group of people who show so much support and team alliance. It feels good to work for a company that appreciates and values its employees. The therapists that I have been associated with show so much compassion in the work that they do with the students, and in turn, it makes me feel proud to be a part of this team. I feel such positive energy and enjoy interacting with both my peers and management.

Fun fact about me
During my leisure time, I enjoy music festivals, shopping, wine tasting events, daily walks, hiking, and spending quality time with my family.

CASSY Staff – Program Manager Beth Tsang

Program Manager

Beth Tsang

My role at CASSY
I am one of the Program Managers at CASSY, and I spend my days supporting therapists and collaborating with school sites to ensure students have access to quality mental health care in their school settings. Along with the leadership team, we are constantly striving to reach more students and extend crucial social and emotional support in schools where it’s most needed.

My CASSY story
I came to CASSY due to my love for school-based mental health services for youth. I have long known that my passion lies in working with kids, and my experience working in school settings helped solidify this for me. After years of direct practice as a therapist, I have also gained an appreciation for the importance of providing clinical support and training for therapists in the field. At CASSY I have the pleasure of working with therapists to support students of all ages and take joy in using my own experiences to help foster the professional development of others.

Fun fact about me
In my spare time away from work, I enjoy getting lost in the woods while hiking and camping. When I’m not out and about enjoying nature, I also have what I call my “old lady” hobbies at home of knitting, sewing, and quilting.

CASSY Staff – Program Manager Monica Votaw

Program Manager

Monica Votaw

My role at CASSY
I am one of the Program Managers and support our clinical supervisors and therapists, promoting and facilitating their professional growth and development. I also work closely with the leadership team to ensure quality and effective clinical services tailored to meet the diverse needs of each community served.

My CASSY story
I love being a part of the CASSY team because I value school-based services and believe wholeheartedly that as school-based therapists we are often the first therapy experience for many youth. It is, therefore, our responsibility and privilege to foster not only ethical and effective, but also positive, therapeutic relationships.

Fun fact about me
When I am not supporting staff or lost in paperwork, I like to spend my free time at the beach, eating In-N-Out, or watching reruns of my favorite TV shows like Friends or Call the Midwife.
