Get Active This April

The weather’s improving – it’s time to get moving! Research shows that movement is good for both your physical and mental health. It all comes down to science in your cells. When you exercise, mood-boosting neurotransmitters such as dopamine, noradrenaline (or norepinephrine) and serotonin are released. Dopamine has been called the pathway to pleasure. Noradrenaline (or norepinephrine) affects your mood, energy, and more. And serotonin is a “natural mood booster,” which can stave off depression.

Exercise also increases your body’s resistance to stress.

To take advantage of all the mood-boosting effects of exercise, the folks at Action for Happiness have put together a calendar of ideas to get us up and moving this April.

Action for Happiness is a “movement of people taking action to create a happier and kinder world, together.” A non-religious, non-sectarian organization, it helps people “learn evidence-based skills for happier living, feel a sense of belonging and commit to personal action to create more happiness, for ourselves and others.”
