Have a Meaningful May – Look Outside Yourself
To improve mental health, experts say young people need genuine sources of meaning in their lives. Directors of the UCLA Center for the Developing Adolescent Andrew J. Fuligni and Adriana Galván argue that finding ways to contribute to the lives of others is a key component to helping young people thrive.
Giving back to others in your community fills you up. To feel happier, try finding sources of meaning this month. Here’s a handy calendar from the people at Action for Happiness with suggestions to try – or to use as inspiration as you come up with your own.
You can download and print the calendar here.
Action for Happiness is a “movement of people taking action to create a happier and kinder world, together.” A non-religious, non-sectarian organization, it helps people “learn evidence-based skills for happier living, feel a sense of belonging and commit to personal action to create more happiness, for ourselves and others.”
