The Switch from Virtual to In-Person

High school students in a classroom

Going from back to school online to now in-person in a matter of a few months has shattered countless peoples’ idea of normal and routined schedules we were all getting so accustomed to. While some people are overjoyed, others struggle to find their place and happiness in this ever changing world that we live in. Everyone learned about themselves in such different ways that it would be hard, but more so, impossible, to create a How-to manual on how to adjust back to in-person learning.

I think the biggest thing that helped me is to create a list of things that helped me online. For example, I made schedules at the beginning of every week planning out the different classes and assignments I had to help distribute my time based on my online classes. Naturally, because of the different schedule and timings of this school year, I can’t use any of those same schedules. However, something that I can do is to distribute my time in a schedule that fits with my timings of my newly-adapted schedule.

Change is all about staying flexible. Especially when everything changes so frequently and you never know what to expect, it’s really important to understand that often your plans won’t go the way you expect. It’s extremely important to leave time for extra changes and even more important to leave time for different events that could occur at any moment. Along the same lines with allowing yourself more time in your schedules, it’s really important to give yourself time to take breaks and rest. Whether it’s taking a short nap, hanging out with friends, listening to music, working out, or going for a run; even for 15 minutes can change how you do work for the next 2 hours.

The switch from virtual school has taken us all lots of time to adjust and we are still continuing to change our daily routine from what we are used to. But that’s okay because at the end of the day, we change for the better.
