CASSY LEADERSHIP TEAM
Executive Director
Marico Sayoc
My role at CASSY
I am the Executive Director and Chief Cheerleader of our organization.
My CASSY story
I have watched CASSY grow from its start in 2009 to the robust organization it has become now. I have witnessed the transformative support CASSY clinicians can provide to students when they are in familiar school settings. In 2019, I was asked to join CASSY, and I knew this was a unique opportunity to positively impact tens of thousands of Bay Area children, their families, and all of our communities – all while working with the kindest staff who truly want to make a difference.
Fun fact about me
My comfort food is watermelon.
Director of Impact and Learning
James Dunhour
My role at CASSY
I am the Director of Impact, Assessment, and Learning whose focus is towards measuring the success of the organization and making sure our staff are equipped with the tools needed to make a difference in students’ lives.
My CASSY story
I joined CASSY and was provided with the opportunity to mentor therapists to be the best versions of themselves as they themselves grow and support hundreds of students at each of their school sites. Combined with all of our staff, my sphere of influence can now support thousands of students across all of our sites and allows me to work towards our mission of destigmatizing mental health from pre-school through high school. Training to become a therapist is what I credit towards helping me to blossom into the person I had always wanted to become and has allowed me to experience the process of change and growth firsthand. Knowing I can impact others to believe in themselves and to differentiate as they slowly gain a wider perspective and better understanding of themselves keeps me anchored towards working with the youth. Working at CASSY brings me that sense of joy and constantly reminds me of that passion.
Fun fact about me
People often see me in my role as a therapist or manager, and I often get defaulted into being “the tech guy,” but I also have a wide range of hobbies, such as designing and producing stained glass windows, designing board games, and programming video games. I am raising two children that continue to give my life a sense of meaning that people always talked about, but I never understood until having them myself.
Senior People Operations Manager
Valerie Hamberry
My role at CASSY
As the Human Relations Manager, I manage all people-related activities, such as staffing, compensation negotiation, employee records, payroll processing, performance management, and employee relations.
My CASSY story
The CASSY culture is different than any other company I’ve worked for in the past. It is a pleasure to be a part of such a dynamic group of people who show so much support and team alliance. It feels good to work for a company that appreciates and values its employees. The therapists that I have been associated with show so much compassion in the work that they do with the students, and in turn, it makes me feel proud to be a part of this team. I feel such positive energy and enjoy interacting with both my peers and management.
Fun fact about me
During my leisure time, I enjoy music festivals, shopping, wine tasting events, daily walks, hiking, and spending quality time with my family.
Director of Finance and Operations
Kathy Granger
My role at CASSY
I am the Director of Finance and Operations.
My CASSY story
Over the last two decades, I have been on the boards of over a dozen nonprofit organizations. During my time on these boards, I have held a variety of positions from president to secretary. I’ve seen firsthand how nonprofits can effect positive change, and I want to be part of that impact on a daily basis. I love being a part of CASSY’s deep commitment to the mission-driven work that supports Bay Area students and families.
Fun fact about me
I am one of seven kids, and so from a young age I learned to “embrace the chaos.”
Clinical Program Manager
Jaime Chavarria
My role at CASSY
As a Clinical Program Manager, I work closely with each therapist on my team to support their clinical growth. I also act as the liaison with the school district and each school to tailor our services to meet their needs. As a part of the leadership team we collaborate on continuing to provide high quality services and are always looking to the future and how our agency can grow and impact more lives.
My CASSY story
When two therapists from my previous agency had left to work at CASSY and were still there after a few years, I knew this must be a good place to work, and I was right! I have a passion for school-based therapy and love working for an agency that puts this at the forefront of their mission. CASSY has helped me grow not just as a clinician but also as a leader and manager, and I love the excitement of starting every new school year with this agency.
Fun fact about me
I love attending live events such as sports games, concerts, musicals or comedy shows. I enjoy hiking all the great trails the Bay Area provides and posting many reviews as a Yelp Elite member which allows me the opportunity to try new restaurants.
Senior Clinical Program Manager
Monica Votaw
My role at CASSY
I am one of the Program Managers and support our clinical supervisors and therapists, promoting and facilitating their professional growth and development. I also work closely with the leadership team to ensure quality and effective clinical services tailored to meet the diverse needs of each community served.
My CASSY story
I love being a part of the CASSY team because I value school-based services and believe wholeheartedly that as school-based therapists we are often the first therapy experience for many youth. It is, therefore, our responsibility and privilege to foster not only ethical and effective, but also positive, therapeutic relationships.
Fun fact about me
When I am not supporting staff or lost in paperwork, I like to spend my free time at the beach, eating In-N-Out, or watching reruns of my favorite TV shows like Friends or Call the Midwife.
